After an extended period of being out and about with my camera I’m coming back around to the computer side of things and that includes blogging. So, I’m back.
In the recent months I’ve done a lot. Like, a whole lot. And I’ll catch up with the following posts, in more or less chronological order.
So, just for the heads up. It’s coming.
Website semi-launch:
After roughly 7 versions, the clean, minimalist IceCalibre.com is staying, at least for a while.
Of course, it will continue to evolve as I see fit, but I think I like the grey, clean styles.
The top title banner with my name is kind of ugly, however, any suggestions?
New project:
Do you have a face?
Can you say your own name?
Do you own a camera of any kind that can take short video?
Then you qualify!
In the inspiration of the stop motion beatbox and Potter Puppet Pals we’re going to make our own.
What you have to do:
Make a small, few second clip of your face saying your name. You can say it however you want, and being different is encouraged (we don’t need a whole load of the same thing from different people.)

So guys, for anyone still around…
As you know, I have not updated this blog in forever. And even when I did, it was largely outdated photography that followed a longer gap anyway.
Which means I am throwing in the proverbial towel with the blog scene and making it official.
I’m leaving this site up as long as WordPress will let me, assuming I can salvage from it later.
In other news: my “real” website is coming along quite nicely, and I’m expecting a full scale launch within the next few months.
In the new site I will be featuring Flickr fed galleries that are interactive, smooth and mostly aesthetically pleasing, as well as a host of new features including organization of my photography vs. my art vs. 3D stuff etc… each with their own gallery. I have yet to test this, but I’m confident I can make it work.
I hate to be cliche, but it will most likely be very professional and black and white, unlike the currently brown, green and blue (also the colours of my custom Blender interface, including the nice rounded edges for boxes…)
If anyone has suggestion for what they would like to see on the new site, drop me a comment.
Did I mention the new site might be taking out comments? Does it seem like they are useful? I find no one uses them.
If you are adament on commenting on my pictures, they will be on Flickr anyway (since the galleries are flickr fed) so you can comment there.

It’s been fun, I assure you, but I think it’s time to move into bigger, better things. I thank you all for your support, and who knows what will happen in the future.

Who doesn’t love food?
Well, Thanksgiving has come and gone. Nearly a month and a half later, I’m photo-blogging it. Woah.
mmm, I should be a food photographer more often.
As a completely random side note, Chrome’s spell check works when I’m captioning pictures, but not when I’m actually blogging. Wierd.
So, since I last left off with my new camera purchase, I’ve bought some cool new stuff. Check it.

Really, not a whole lot to say about this brilliant piece of robofacture. I mean, it’s a tripod that can be used vitrually anywhere (Please note, I have yet to use it in space. Coming soon, hopefully.) It’s definately a good invesment for a photographer like me who finds himself everywhere and anywhere, and would like a tripod that can fit into a backpack easily.

Speaking of backpacks, this is my pick of the crop. It’s a small pack (you can get the bigger ones that are basically the same thing.) but it’s handy to have as a camera devoted or (in my case) a hybrid pack. I keep my camera, my gorillapod (yes, it rolls up small enough to fit in where one of the lens’ should go.) generic camera gear (cords, SD cards, lens caps etc…) and usually a lunch, wallet, cell phone with room to spare. It’s a very effecient set up, although my one and only gripe is that I cannot carry paper without scrunching it up. Eg, no sketchbooks for my trips. Oh well. Also, it has a waterproof nylon? sleeve that folds out the bottom to cover the entire pack, making it considerably water resistant. It’s over the shoulder, with a clip on cord under the right arm, so it can be brought close enough to the body to jog, run or bike with (and not have camera gear flopping everywhere.) A bit pricey, but I justify it by respecting the investment that my camera is. More details on the official site, and pictures of the guy demonstrating the unique “slingshot” sling feature (twisting under the arm for access to the gear without taking the whole thing off.).
The other tripod I picked up is a generic Dynex. It’s the standard sized one, I don’t even know… five feet fully extended maybe? It’s not small enough to be put into the sling shot (my other issue with the slingshot design, no tube shaped objects bigger than lenses. Eg: no water bottles) If I’m on bike, I’ll have a bottle strapped to the frame, but on foot I would have to carry it. Small detail, I guess. But for those hot days, it would be handy. The bigger tripod is much, much better for panoramics. Hoping to get into little planet photography some time.
Of course, as outlined in a previous post, I’m shooting with the Canon XS 1000D EOS Rebel, stock 18-55mm IS lens.
