Cardboard Chair Final Renders

The three of us spent over seven hours in the studio putting the chair together yesterday and it’s finally done!
I wish I had real photos that are better than my cell phone’s but alas, all I have until we do the final shoot is the above concept renders.
The project was to make a chair out of 100% sheet cardboard using no fasteners or adhesives and so we did a crazy amount of folds and dovetails and it came out really well in the end, I’d say. The seat curve is based on ergonomic data so it’s surprisingly comfortable, though the shell creaks a little when you lean back into it. It feels solid, I’d assume up to ~200 lbs.
The interior is a slotted vertical grid that has central spines and ribs fitted into it and the shell pieces all form into one large skin which wraps around the skeleton.
This weekend it’s getting painted white with black on the all the edges and creases to give it a kind of wireframe look which I’m really excited for.
Monday is the big test day! Best of luck to all of us, there have been some long nights but it’s all been worth it.
